چکیده

In this paper, the upper bound limit analysis of thin plates in bending is addressed using various types of triangular finite elements for the generation of velocity fields and second order cone programming (SOCP) for the minimization problem. Three different C-discontinuous finite elements are considered : the quadratic 6 node Lagrange triangle (T6), an enhanced T6 element with a cubic bubble function at centroid (T6b) and the cubic Hermite triangle (H3). Through numerical examples involving Johansen and von Mises yield criteria, it is shown that cubic elements (H3) give far better results in terms of convergence rate and precision than fully conforming elements found in the literature, especially for problems involving clamped boundaries.

Bearing Capacity of Strip Footings near Slopes Using Lower Bound Limit Analysis

Stability of foundations near slopes is one of the important and complicated problems in geotechnical engineering, which has been investigated by various methods such as limit equilibrium, limit analysis, slip-line, finite element and discrete element. The complexity of this problem is resulted from the combination of two probable failures: foundation failure and overall slope failure. The curr...

A Finite Volume Formulation for the Elasto-Plastic Analysis of Rectangular Mindlin-Reissner Plates, a Non-Layered Approach

This paper extends the previous work of authors and presents a non-layered Finite Volume formulation for the elasto-plastic analysis of Mindlin-Reissner plates. The incremental algorithm of the elasto-plastic solution procedure is shown in detail. The performance of the formulation is examined by analyzing of plates with different boundary conditions and loading types. The results are illustrat...

Load Carrying Capacity of Simply Supported Variable Thickness Circular Plates

The calculation of the load carrying capacity of variable thickness circular plates subjected to arbitrary rotational symmetric loading is presented. The analysis considers plate materials that obey either the square or the Tresca yield criterion. By using upper and lower bound theorems of limit analysis, corresponding estimations for the load carrying capacity of the plate are obtained. It is ...

Finite Element Analysis of Reinforced RC Bracket Using CFRP Plates

CFRP composites have unique application qualities such as high resistance and durability to environmental conditions, having relatively low weight and easy to install in strengthening concrete structure elements. The brackets should be strengthen sufficiently if they are not calculated and implemented well. Application of the CFRP is one of the methods for such purposes. The study involves usin...
